The clients brief was to turn the old Haroldswick shop into a Bistro Gallery providing a sophisticated but cosy interior which would surprise the visitor and provide a modern, comfortable space to compliment the food. A central fireplace subdivides the existing space providing hanging space for the gallery, a cosy area in the heart of the restaurant and which doubles up as a subtly hidden internet access point. The front of the building has been opened up to flood the space with light, take advantage of the stunning view over the sea and to give access to a small external seating area. The quirky boat bar piece both ties in Shetland’s heritage, the sea and the boat haven next door and provides a counterpoint to the fireplace.
