Due to the demise of Mowat & Co, who ran a bakeshop from the premises the block including most of the flats above the shop premises had become derelict.

Hjaltland Housing Association’s refurbishment of this block involved creating 11 flats on two stories to the rear by building almost right up to the playing fields behind. The flats are grouped around a central courtyard behind the Main Street frontage. The surprisingly roomy courtyard is accessed off Main Street by an existing doorway and contains the stairway to the upper floor flats with top light coming from a central lantern.

A creche occupies the commercial unit on the street frontage which brings life to Main Street.
