Housing

To try to retain the existing character of the harbour area in Aith this housing scheme for Hjaltland Housing Association adopts a modern but timeless approach to its Architecture. Following the Homezone principle the houses are grouped around a central paved courtyard, which slows traffic speed to a minimum and encourages social interaction between the tenants. The white-rendered walls bounding the development are softened within the courtyard with brightly coloured timber weatherboarded gables and drystane planticrubs.

In the design of the houses we have maximised the space available by creating modern, open plan, living/kitchen/dining rooms. These have glazing into the halls and direct access to outside patio areas, introducing good levels of daylight and emphasising the connection with the garden, creating a feeling of space.
