To try to retain the existing character of the harbour area in Aith this housing scheme for Hjaltland Housing Association adopts a modern but timeless approach to its Architecture. Following the Homezone principle the houses are grouped around central paved courtyard which slows traffic speed to a minimum and encourages social interaction between the tenants. White rendered walls which contain the development are softened within the courtyard with brightly coloured timber weatherboarded gables and drystane planticrubs.

The houses themselves are constrained by the usual space standards however by creating open plan living, kitchen dining spaces , glazing into the hall and introducing good levels of daylight with direct access to the outside we have maximised the feeling of space.
